Why China developed faster than India?

We Indians are really smart, innovative and insightful. Many top companies have Indian CEOs, lots of doctors, engineers, professors abroad are of Indian origin. India has the ability and intelligence to develop itself into a technologically advanced nation. There are tens of thousands of “extremely talented” people in India but what matters is which country these talents are contributing to. Indians like to work in the US, Europe and want to settle there with their families. They never come back to India. So, the brain drain is the real problem.

In order to develop faster, industrialization is the key. In order to really develop
industrialization, we need to understand that the educated talents are the seeds, the domestic environment is the soil, govt policies are the fertilizer and the market/foreign investment is sunlight and water. Without seed real industrialization will not begin. In this India is lagging. Now, what is China doing differently? There is a countless number of delegations and recruitment groups organized by Chinese govt abroad for seeking talent. Every city/state sends delegations consisting of mayors, high-rank officials, company CEOs. They invite Chinese students for formal dinners for free, advertise their policies and actually ‘beg’ them to settle in China. This is the talent policy from China, which is very entrepreneur friendly and promotes new startups with huge subsidies ranging from providing funds to buying new homes.

Typically, richer the city, more you will be granted. The more companies registered, the more tax that the city will be able to collect. That tax will be used for development and for companies to attract more talent. So, it forms a positive cycle. Chinese govt also give scholarships to pursue studies abroad on condition of your return back in China itself. Singapore also has this scholarship policy. So, nearly 90% of Chinese students head back to China. They brought back the latest ideas, technology, and resources back. Same helped Taiwan, Japan, and Korea to develop.

Also, in Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese culture, “people pay huge respect to scholars and the talented instead of religious leaders”.

China has more focus on manufacturing sector whereas India jumped from primary to tertiary sector directly neglecting manufacturing sector.

Now, if we talk of India then there are no mayors, officials who got to world’s top universities and beg the talent to return India after studies. Neither there is any scholarship.

Let’s discuss another scenario. Though Indians are hardworking we lag behind in almost every sphere. We know an ordinary piece of iron has no power to attract. But when it gets magnetized, it acquires so much power. The people of India are divided on the basis of caste, creed, language, religion and so on and hence everyone is trying to serve own short-term interest. Most of our energy is wasted in these matters. Our political leaders instead of aligning everyone, try to divide them. But here china’s communist govt has excel in unifying the nation to develop and prosper.

For a long-term gain, we Indians need to give up our short term gains or gratification. We need to understand that hard work with patience is the key to development and prosperity in the long run. That time will definitely come when we will develop the US and Europe like infrastructure and lifestyle. Till then Work, work and work.
