Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Opinions || Top 5 reasons why Congress lost and BJP won!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created history by becoming the first leader to win the post with a simple majority twice in a row since 1971. The Bharatiya Janata Party alone finished with 303 seats and a vote share of more than 50% in as many as 11 states and two Union territories in the 2019 General Elections. This simply shows how popular BJP has become over the years. There must be a reason why people are voting in favour of BJP even in BJP's non-traditional areas like Southern states, West Bengal, North-East etc. In this article we are going to explain you exactly the reason why.

1. Negative Politics by opposition

Throughout the election campaign, the opposition just focused on "Modi Hatao". They had no plans as to how to do it and had no explanation of why do they want to remove Modi. No opposition party or leader talked about BJP's failed policies like "Namami Gange" project which was aimed to clean Ganga and other failed policies as well. No one talked about  it in TV News debates, or in the newspapers. Most of their focus was on the credibility of EVMs. They just wanted to remove Modi. Instead of talking about what good or bad their own parties or BJP did, they just kept ranting about how democracy is in danger because of Modi. So it turned out that the common people of India do not endorse such negativity.

2. No PM face in opposition

This is simple. People did not know for whom they are voting for if they voted for the opposition. There was no clear PM face which created a confusion in people's minds. On the contrary, people did not vote for their local MP candidates, they just voted for Modi. They knew that if they vote for BJP, they are voting for Modi to be the Prime Minister. This might not be the intelligent way to vote and I also believe that one should vote according to the credibility of their area's MP candidates and not just blindly vote for a party but the reality is people voted for Modi and that is what it is.

3. Taking minority and Dalit votes for granted

The Congress party and Mahagathbandhan tried to convince the Muslims and Dalit voters that the BJP government will not do any good to them. They were overconfident about the fact that they will get all the Dalit and Muslim votes but they failed.
The data[source] shows that BJP's vote share has increased in Muslim majority seats and also Muslim voters who vote for BJP have increased. On seats where 20-40% population is of Muslims, BJP's vote share increased by 8.1%. On top of that, the promise to abolish Triple Talaq attracted Muslim women to vote for BJP.
Also in rural areas, BJP's vote share increased by 6.8% and SC, ST vote share increased by 5.9% and 6.7% respectively. On the seats where Dalit population is more than 30%, BJP's vote share increased by 11.1%.
This clearly shows that the opposition failed to analyse what was actually going on in the minds of this section of voters and taught us a lesson that we should not take anything for granted.

4. National Security

Somehow, the BJP led government was able to convince the people that the country is in safe hands if they are in government. They convinced people that the state of national security has been the best India has ever seen in 70+ years of independence. In all the election rallies, advertisements etc., BJP boasted about the recent air-strikes done to avenge the Pulwama attacks. They also reminded people of the 2016 surgical strikes. Now I am not commenting whether or not taking credit of Army's work is ethical or not but the thing is that it worked and worked pretty well for BJP.

5. PM Modi's personality and solid welfare schemes

Love him or hate him, PM Modi has a strong and dynamic personality and he is the master of the art of public speaking. He knows how to engage his audience and how to interact with them. And on top of that, the launch of schemes like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Jan Dhan Yojna, Suraksha Beema Yojna, Atal Pension Scheme, Digital India, Skill India, Make in India, Swachh Bharat etc. attracted the voters towads BJP. On top of that, none of these schemes were named after a famous politician from the ruling party. This was different from the Congress party which used to name schemes on Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi etc. Now I am not debating on the success or failure of these schemes but the thing is that BJP was able to advertise these schemes successfully and was able to convince the voters that these schemes did well and the government will continue to launch such schemes.
